Our commitment to the environment
At Marguisa, we believe that sustainability is the key to a cleaner and more efficient future in maritime transport. As part of the Sea & Ports group, we strive to be leaders in the implementation of sustainable practices within our industry. From route optimisation to fleet renewal, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and actively contributing to the transition towards greener logistics.
Carbon Footprint Calculator
In line with our efforts to provide sustainable solutions to our customers, we have implemented a carbon footprint measurement tool on our website. This tool allows our customers to calculate the emissions generated by their shipments, promoting transparency and helping them make informed decisions to reduce their environmental impact.
Fleet renewal and Cleaner fuels
As part of the decarbonisation of maritime transport, we are renewing our fleet with modern, efficient vessels that comply with regulations such as IMO 2020, EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime, with the aim of achieving zero emissions in the long term through innovative technologies.
In addition, we are exploring alternative fuels and electrification, collaborating with technology partners, and optimising routes and fleet management to reduce energy consumption and operate more sustainably.
Compliance with European Regulations
Marguisa meets all European regulations related to sustainability, ensuring that our operations are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
EU ETS (EU Emissions Trading System)
Since 1 January 2024, maritime transport has been included in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). This means that ships over 5,000 GT must purchase emission allowances proportional to the CO₂ emissions generated.
At Marguisa, we strictly adhere to this system in order to comply with legal requirements and continue contributing to the global reduction of carbon emissions.
FuelEU Maritime
On 1 January 2025, the FuelEU Maritime regulation came into force, setting progressive limits on the greenhouse gas intensity of energy used in ships. This legislation promotes the reduction of emissions, with the aim of achieving a reduction of up to 80% by 2050.
We are committed to this regulation and are taking active measures to ensure that our fleet complies with these standards.
Strategic initiatives and alliances
Commitment to Local Communities
At Marguisa, we are not only committed to environmental sustainability, but also to having a positive social impact in the regions where we operate. We actively support projects in West Africa, particularly in Equatorial Guinea and São Tomé and Príncipe, where we collaborate with various local foundations and education, health and sports programmes. We also promote social inclusion and support job creation in the region.
Partnership for Sustainability
We collaborate with other companies, organisations, and governments committed to sustainability. We participate in initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime transport sector. We also collaborate with alternative fuel suppliers and technology sector players to drive innovation in our operational processes.
Transparency and Reporting
Sustainability Reports and Environmental Audits
Transparency is a key pillar of our sustainability strategy. We publish detailed reports on our sustainability actions and results, providing information on our CO₂ emissions, energy consumption and the operational improvements we have implemented. Our goal is to comply with the highest international ESG (environmental, social and governance) reporting standards.
Education and training
Human Talent Development in Sustainability
Our commitment to sustainability begins with training our employees in environmental values. Through ongoing internal training programmes, we ensure that all our employees are aligned with our green policies and can apply best practices in their areas of work. Sustainability training also extends to our suppliers and logistics partners.
Customer and Supplier Awareness
In addition to technological tools, we convey our philosophy to our customers and suppliers in order to promote more sustainable practices in the supply chain. Through our services, we encourage green practices for those interested in reducing their carbon footprint and optimising their logistics processes.
At Marguisa, we are determined to be a benchmark for sustainability within the maritime sector.
Through process optimisation, regulatory compliance, training and social commitment, we seek to actively contribute to caring for the environment and the well-being of the communities where we operate.
